Anglo-Georgian Expedition to Nokalakevi

Since 2001 Anglo-Georgian Archaeological Expedition has been working succesfully in Nokalakevi. In 2001-2004 the expedition has revealed hellenistic and middle ages' graves, with diverse grave-goods: pottery, silver, golden, bronze, glass and paste jewellery.

Epecially important find is the peace of left part of the stone cross with Greece inscription found in 2001 (III-IV or V-VI centuries). All these materials are found in both (A and B) trenches, in which archaeological materials are studied till hellinistic (Trench A) and early middle ages (Trench B) levels.

In Nokalakevi Expedition the students from Tbilisi, Southampton and Oxford universities are having proffesional practice courses, they are learning the newest metodology of archaeological excavations.

The excavations are led by:

· Ian Colvin, Oxford University (Project Director);
· Nick Armour, (Photography and Finds Director);
· Paul Everill, Southampton University (Site Director);
· Ben Neil, (Osteologist).
All these people create the best conditions for high quality excavations in Nokalakevi.

Anglo-Georgian Expedition is going to continue excavations in future.
